Newport Beach has been sealed into our hearts since The O.C brought Seth Cohen and the gang into our lives circa 2003. Every Thursday night we’d watch these fictional high schoolers end up in situations people 20 years their senior wouldn’t. But, Phantom Planet’s “California” crooned in the background and made us all believe in the fantasy. Ever since we have been California Dreamin’.
Although Newport Beach is not just a place of residence for fictional characters, it is also a famous tourist destination. Each year the number of visitors that vacation there would make your head spin. Of course, if you’re lucky enough to be in SoCal, then Orange County makes for a fantastic “staycation.” In fact, you only need 24 hours to enjoy this magnificent place. Here is the Boundless North guide for what to do (and wear) in Newport Beach.
Layer it up
Layers are essential in this sleepy beach town. The days start off chilly until the marine layer (A.K.A. fog) burns off. The style is laid back here, and a jacket with some detailing make it look like you’ve got some edge. But not like you’re trying too hard. Also, lifeguard towers are the perfect place to watch the sun come out...and surfers come out of the water.
Monochromatic looks always make the ranks of the sartorial “best-dressed” lists. There’s a reason or two for that. One is you look instantly polished, and two is you’ll stand out. Not sure why just wearing shades of the same color makes you look like your life is together, but we’re here for it. We love these looks because the pink is reminiscent of the sunset (watch that from the pier!) and the blue reminds us of the waves of course.
Frolic in flannel
While the Pacific Coast is beautiful, the water itself tends to be on the cooler side. Turns out, you can blame the Arctic swells that make their way down south. Here in Newport, you’ll totally get to show off cute swimwear on the sand, or once July rolls around. Until then, a little cover-up will keep your body temperature at a safe level while you explore the famous Newport Beach Pier.
Show a little sass in a skirt
We love this look because it’s perfect for taking a pause on the sand to read, check your phone, whatever. Hey, not everyone can be prepared all the time with a towel or beach chair...Even better is that this outfit works for the boardwalk or the shore. Newport Beach is a fishing town and we highly recommend you take advantage of the many seafood joints along the Balboa Peninsula. Show up in this and no one will blink an eye, they’ll just ask if you’d like a drink… Cheers!
